Sweet Swirling Onion Rings!
July 2, 2007 at 7:10 am | In Music, Schooled | 4 CommentsWeek 5 begins now. After this week I will be into the optional programs. This week will be mostly skills testing. Zoinks! Then Thursday will be the final final.
Week 4 was a little slow going, everyone that is not staying has started to feel the end coming.
On Friday we had a guest speaker, Bill Halverson. He engineered on albums for guys like Clapton and Crosby, Stills and Nash.
Speaking of Clapton, I am watching (little by little) The Crossroads Guitar Festival on DVD. It’s smoking good.
Last week I watched Catch and Release, it is a good movie. I recommend it with 3 stars. Not that that means anything. I also watched Robin Hood: Men In Tights. Always quality entertainment. I need to find Blazing Saddles.
I bought the Traveling Wiburys cd set. I haven’t had a chance to give it a spin yet but I am postive that it’s good stuff.
I have a mix session in a bit, so I am going to get my sh*% together.
Movin’ right along
June 21, 2007 at 8:32 am | In Music, Schooled | No CommentsWOW!! Week 3 is almost over.
So what have I learned so far? Alot of little tricks, like eq’ing a voice to sound like it is coming thru an old phone, how NIN makes the drums sound the way they do. The best on yet is how the songs Someday and How You Remind Me, both by Nickelback, are nearly identical. Played at the same time you can barely pick one from the other.
My knowledge of Pro Tools is starting to expand. My team has tracked and overdubbed 3 different bands, one bluesy, one rock and one emo-ish. All pretty decent bands. We have put together 2 TV commercials and a radio spot. Our next sound for picture project is putting together the trailer from Goldeneye. Today my team is tracking a student project and doing a remix of something on Pro Tools. I am learning to love digital. I have any TV since June 3rd. I am one of the few who still shows up to class before the scheduled start time.
That’s all for now.
Peace Love and Hairgrease
So I lied.
June 6, 2007 at 1:10 pm | In Schooled | No CommentsI have a few minutes between lecture and studio time.
The middle of nowhere is a great place for the RECW. Why? Few outside distractions.
But it is also insanely boring if you don’t have a car to get anywhere. I hate being at the mercy of other people.
Pretty basic stuff going this 1st week. Charting signal flow of the studio, practicing signal in the studio, a little more charting, a little more practice. Learning different mic types and patterns. Learning which ones not to drop and which ones you can hammer nails with. Seriously.
ANYWAYS! I need to go put on a long sleeve shirt cuz it’s cold in the studios.
Talk at ya’ll later.
Still listening to hawai’ian music….
April 23, 2007 at 8:57 am | In Me Myself and I, Schooled | No Comments39 days until classes at The Recording Workshop begin. Guess I need to start getting my sh*t together.
Anybody out there wanna get a laptop for me????
I did my Curves workout to the Austin Powers theme song. I got the giggles. Makes the workout kinda difficult.
