(don’t you) forget about me

I am totally going to pick on Abby.

WHAT’S GOING ON RIGHT NOW

Filed under: A Little BIt of Everything
I too have realized that I have been neglecting my blog because reading other blogs and commenting on what other people are thinking has been far more interesting than my own life. Of course that’s my fault! There are lots of interesting things going on here in my life and inside my head as well. Okay, maybe not interesting, but there’s still life.

A run-down:

Pilates: I don’t do Pilates, I probably should. My Dr. got on my case about excercise and my slightly high cholesterol levels. I do play Active Life Extreme Challenge on Wii, it can be pretty vigorous.

Guitar: I can’t play guitar worth a lick (pun completely intended.) My keyboard is set-up and occasionally gets played. Luke has been teaching himself to play guitar and has been practicing, drums, with the worship band at the Hub City V.

Knitting: I can only knit in a straight line and even then it doesn’t always go as well as it should. I haven’t worked on any projects, other than the Halloween bags, lately.

Diapers: I’m not that old yet.

Phonics: Hooked on.

Gardening: We have a ton of hot peppers that will hopefully be ready very soonly, otherwise they may be lost to frost.

I don’t have any helpful links or websites, unless you need a quote. Then go here.

This was not nearly as perky as Abby’s but fun nonetheless.

Anyway, if you’re my friend (or family) and you’ve actually come here to read about my uninteresting life, thanks. I try!

P.S.–great book to read, Bryson City Secrets and Bryson City Seasons.

have you seen me lately?

I haven’t been here in a while. (No kidding?)
Work keeps us busy and when we are home together we try to spend time together. As you know, my schedule changed, back in June, I used to work Saturday-Tuesday night. Now I work Wednesday-Saturday day. It is much more pleasant, except that Luke and I only have one day off together. Luke is looking at going to school, probably for animal sciences in one form or another.
Our garden is still doing well, we need to harvest the rest of the hot peppers and green peppers. The tomatoes are done, the okra is likely finished. I got home from Ohio to find a gigantic pod, probably 7-8 inches long. I have enough to make some gumbo sometime this winter.
I am ready for fall and a first frost, I have been miserable for about 2 months now. Luke is not ready.
We went to see District 9 back in July, I highly recommend. Very cool flick.
We are still working our way through The X-Files (with the help of Netflix.)

In These Days

We emptied out two rooms last week to clean the carpets and I realized that we have some much stuff that we don’t use. At the same time some stuff is hard to let go off. We have a Goodwill pile started, again.

I have been struggling with not being bitter about life lately. But I can feel fall coming and I love fall so that makes me happy.

Nitty Gritty Dirt Garden

Yesterday I noticed that a lot of my veggies in containers were getting a little tight on space. So Luke made a space for them to be put in the ground. He eyeballed it and cut in it out with the edger, it is nearly square, cause that’s how he rolls. We left the 2 biggest and the ones that are still tiny in their pots. The 2 biggest, tomatoes and green peppers, I didn’t want to risk losing the fruits that are growing so well. The smallest, okra, mint and cumin, aren’t well enough established to risk transfer. I can’t wait to harvest.

They call me mellow yellow

Things have been pretty quiet around here. I am adjusting to working during the day and enjoying it.
I watched Woodstock 3 Days of Peace and Music last week. Pretty darn sweet.
For the past couple of weeks I have been downloaded the free songs itunes offers on Tuesday.
The container garden is growing well. We will have tomatoes soon. The peppers are blooming. I have harvested some spinach, that I will be using today. The okra had a rough go of it for a while but now it is growing. All the various herbs are taking off.
Luke and I both just finished reading the Harry Potter series again, can’t wait for the movie!

Oh, there you are…

The adjustment to much, much less tv has been trying. We have about 16 channels. 6 are “local,” 2 are PBS, 1 is the station I work for and therefore don’t watch, the others are a handful of random stations. We kept our digital box, so we still have access to On-Demand.  The worst is the middle of the day. We have utilized hulu.com a lot.

The bedroom redeux is coming along, it should be finished by Monday. Luke’s dad is coming to help get it done.

I/we haven’t been listening to any thing in particular lately. We put iTunes on shuffle and let her roll.

We had a string of “eh” movies from Netflix. We will get the remake of “The Day the Earth Stood Still” tomorrow and “Bad Boys.” We at least know that Bad Boys is a good movie. In case you are wondering…”Bangkok Dangerous,” not that good. “Smokin’ Aces” and “Shoot ‘Em Up” are both just over the top violence, the plots were buried under gunfire.

We have okra, green peppers, tomatoes, spinach, oregano, thyme and parsley growing nicely. We need to do a little digging, if the rain lets us, to get our onions planted. Oh! and mint. The mint I intended on using as a ground cover.

adding to the noise

Let the spring cleaning commence! We started with our enclosed porch last week.

I have a new favorite snack food. Home-made fruit leather. Mango is yummy. Strawberry-nana is currently in the dryer. Home-made peanut butter is super sticky but nonetheless awesome for PB cookies. By the way I will from mow on use honey instead of brown sugar in cookies.

odds and ends

Everything around here has been pretty consistent lately. I like that.

We have gravy milkbones for Brutus. The cats like to get them out of the box and like the gravy coating off.

Our interface should be here shortly and then we can actually use the recording program we bought.

My cold is nearly gone, just a little nasal drip.

Luke was telling me about a blind cow the other day. She goes until she bumps into something and then turns, he said that she knows her way around pretty well.

We spend most of our time at home listening to music and watching The X-Files.

Our month of non-spending went well enough that it became habit. We still ate out too much.

Reading

I am changing the Resolutions page.
It will be a list of books that Luke and I are reading or have started reading.

Half way there

Our $0 spending month is going fairly well. We have kept it under $200, so far. Normally when we have our fuel oil tanks filled we have pay $150-$200 a month until it is $0. I just wrote a check to pay it in full. $750 plus 2 other bills. As Captain Awesome would say, “AWESOME!”
Watching your spending like a hawk most definitly pays off.
